There are only a few things I'm sure of in life...there is a God, we will always have to pay taxes, and one day we will all die. Add another to the list in Yasiel Puig will get the fans vote for the final All-Star spot.
Do you agree that Puig is worthy of being a National League All-Star? At first I said no, he hasn't paid his dues. But then I looked further at his numbers. He had the 2nd most hits in a month for a rookie in MLB history. Who was ahead of him? Joe DiMaggio. He's a 5 tool player who, along with Hanley Ramirez, have gotten the Dodgers right back in this race. Puig is definitely worthy of being selected for the 2013 season. I'm not ready to call him Roberto Clemente yet, but I think he has the potential to be an All-Star for many years to come.
Papelbon needs a labotomy if he thinks this guy should not be in the game. Dominant players must be in.
ReplyDeleteI read a comparison between Puig and another player during their rookie years. After I read this I came to the conclusion that Puig does not deserve to be in the all-star game. He will have his time but not this year.
ReplyDeleteFrancoeur had better numbers through the same number of games when he first came up. He really turned into a legend...
Francoeur through first 23 games:
AB: 81
HR: 8
AVG: .432
OBP: .439
SLG: .827
BB: 0
SO: 16
Puig through first 23 games:
AB: 89
HR: 7
AVG: .427
OBP: 457
SLG: .708
BB: 3
SO: 18
Excellent analysis Josh! In my opinion, Puig is several notches above fellow Cuban Yoenis Cespedes of the A's. We will have to agree to disagree on Puig's potential. I certainly am not putting him in the Hall of Fame, but I think he could be special.
DeleteGreat research Josh. Baseball needs to put him in game and capitalize on his popularity for the greater good of baseball. Baseball trails in popularity of the other sports, nfl and nba. The fans want to see him.
